Just call me the gift-giving ninja. Since I knew friends and family would be asking us for gift ideas, I decided to use my ninja skills to come up with a list of 9 best birthday gift ideas for a 6-year-old boy.
Whether the 6-year-old in your life is into riding his bike or playing video games, I bet he would like every item on this birthday gift list.
9 best birthday gift ideas for a 6-year-old boy
1. Laser X (Target)
This is similar to the laser tag of our childhoods, but better. The laser and vest light up with every hit, and it's a fun way to encourage children to run around. I've always been against any toy that even slightly resembles a gun, but after seeing my son's sweaty and happy face after a quick round of Laser X I'm so glad someone gave him this game. It works with other sets too, so more than two people can play together.
2. Colorblock Zip Hoodie (Tea Collection)
My kids have reached the age where they want to wear activewear, but I still like them to look polished and dressed well. While clothes don't seem like a fun birthday gift, they can be! The key is to find out what the child likes. I still remember how fun it was to wear a new outfit for the first time after a year in the same clothes.
3. LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS Desert Lightning (Amazon)
We are a LEGO-obsessed household. I love LEGO sets that my six year old can do in about an hour that also provide tons of entertainment. Sets that have any time of movement and are under 300 pieces fit that bill, including this NEXO KNIGHTS set. For only $16 it comes with two vehicles that are fun to build.
4. Dig It Up! Dinosaur Eggs (Amazon)
This set comes with 12 eggs individually wrapped with their own little chisels. If you're having a boring Saturday afternoon, these eggs are sure to spice things up. You chisel away at the egg until you find the plastic dinosaur in the middle. Be aware that they make a mess so we usually use a tray or a bowl to contain the dust. These have been a hit in our household for years now, so consider them a great birthday gift idea for any preschool or elementary school aged child.
5. Classic Operation Game (Amazon)
Operation is a great game to practice those fine motor skills. They now sell many different versions, but my kids prefer the classic Operation game.
6. Blankie Tails Shark Blanket (Amazon)
Every Friday night we have this tradition of snuggling under blankets, making a ton of popcorn and watching a movie. This shark blanket is so cozy and fun. You slide in like a sleeping bag, and if you need to walk somewhere your feet can fit comfortably in the tail to walk around.
7. The Original Stomp Rocket Jr. Glow (Amazon)
You stomp to launch these rockets into the sky, and this glow version is so fun to play with at dusk. We can all play with this for hours without getting tired of watching the rockets soar.
8. UNO card game (Amazon)
UNO is a great family game. It says it's appropriate for ages 7+, but as long as your child knows his numbers it's an easy game to learn. I love that it's easy to pack along in my purse for unexpected times we need to wait, and it's an easy way to bond as a family. I will often find my husband and six year old playing a quick game of UNO before bed.
9. Hikeport Waterproof Mid Boots (KEEN)
Don't you get excited about new shoes? My kids get so excited about new shoes. These boots are waterproof, lightweight and comfortable but fashionable enough to wear with jeans.
I hope this list of birthday gift ideas for your 6-year-old boy helps you on your next gift buying adventure.
