This week, we will tell you about an education approach developed in the UK and spread all over the world. You will be able to recognize and learn this program which is known as Stage Key Stage ve and applied in many schools in our country under different titles in the article. Here are the details of this approach…

Main Stage Approach

Historical development:
It is the UK's national education program, which was finalized in 1988 by an educational reform. It targets children aged 5-16 years. The aim of this compulsory education is; to provide equal opportunities for all children in the country without discrimination, to teach them democracy, honesty and responsibility. The program consists of four parts. Prepared as Main Stage 1 for preschool age (3-7), Main Stage 2 for 7-11 years, Main Stage 3 for 11-14 years and Main Stage 4 for 14-16 years.

Curriculum Content:
• Looking at the Stage 1 part of the preschool,

"The English

Science
technology
History
Geography
Art
Music
Physical education
Religious Education
Citizenship ”.

• Training is carried out in small groups. Working in small groups in the corners of the classroom in line with the intended goals during the day. With this method called a station method, the teacher is only present at a station to teach his or her aim. A maximum of 4 children are employed and care is taken to ensure that the children of this group are at the same level. All children in turn do the same activity in the target group, and the other children work alternately at other stations. The aim here is to ensure that the child is constantly more alert and active without spending time in school and activities are largely child-centered.

Social Area:
• To prepare students for primary education and to ensure that they use English in the best way.
• Learning of disciplinary rules and self-care skills is prioritized.
• It is important to develop children's communication skills.
• To train individuals who know English culture well.

Landscaping:
• The number of corners is higher than other programs due to the station method. They are divided into many corners of art, music, books, blocks, mathematics, science, drama.
• Since the garden time is very important, the garden must be large and rich in material. Regardless of the weather conditions, care is taken to apply garden time.

Points specific to this approach:
• Using English very well is among the main objectives, but children start to learn to read and write from the age of 5 years. Second foreign language education starts at this age. After the age of 5, education starts at primary level, not pre-school. The child who is 7 years old, who is a preschool graduate, is subjected to literacy and mathematics tests to determine whether they need special education.
• This program emphasizes traditionalism and includes religious education.
• Emphasizes the importance of disciplined work and the child being a self-sufficient individual. The child has to do everything about himself.
